Biodiversity Burntisland
Biodiversity Burntisland was formed in the summer of 2023, following a series of Community Cafés where local residents shared their concerns about pesticide use in and around the town. These conversations highlighted a shared passion for creating a healthier, greener environment and quickly led to a meeting between community representatives, Burntisland Community Council, and Fife Council’s Grounds Maintenance team. Common ground was established, and from there, the group began to take shape.
Since then, Biodiversity Burntisland has been working to explore practical ways to protect and enhance the natural environment in and around the town. The group’s focus is on improving habitats, encouraging pollinators, reducing reliance on pesticides, and supporting biodiversity in both wild and managed spaces. From roadside verges and parks to community gardens and private plots, the aim is to create a network of thriving green areas that benefit people, plants, and wildlife alike.
The group also places a strong emphasis on education and awareness, helping local people understand the importance of biodiversity and the small steps everyone can take to make a difference. By sharing knowledge, encouraging collaboration, and building partnerships with local organisations, Biodiversity Burntisland seeks to inspire a more sustainable approach to how we care for our shared spaces.
At its heart, Biodiversity Burntisland is about community action and positive change. It’s about local people coming together to imagine and create a greener, healthier future for Burntisland—one where wildlife can thrive, natural beauty can be enjoyed, and everyone has a role to play in protecting the environment.
If you share these values and would like to get involved, we’d love to hear from you. Whether you have gardening experience, a passion for wildlife, or simply want to help, there’s a place for you in the group. Together, we can make Burntisland a more biodiverse and vibrant place to live.
